Physical characteristics and technical requirements
In October 1984, the office in which REFS were deposited was destroyed by an arsonist. The books were rescued, dried out, cleaned, pressed, repaired and rebound by Surrey Record Office. Thus one of the largest and longest run collection of Log Books in the Borough was saved, the only loss being a temporary Log Book of 1940 which was destroyed.
