Second World War Identity Cards; bank pass book 1937-39; other ephemera. Mr Bailey lived at 76 Woodcote Valley Road, Purley, from the 1920s until his death in 1992.

Relating mainly to local history, including draft of The Book of the Wandle, draft of historical novel, and miscellaneous historical notes. Served on Croydon Borough Council 1890s, keen student of archaeology ansd natural history. Died 1931.

Papers relating mainly to wartime ARP and postwar Civil Defence. Includes ARP logbooks for Wardens Post no. M73 1940-45.

A collection of certificates, photographs and documents relating to the teaching careers of Dora and Jessie Chadderton in the Croydon and Camberwell areas. In addition, there are family photographs and records relating to family property and activities.

Second World War call up papers and letters written home whilst on active service. Papers include an estimate for his sisters wedding reception at the Cafe Royal, North End, 1938.

Consists of six handwritten note books of household accounts 1976 - 90, four diaries 1983 - 86 and one ration book 1953 - 4. A cursory view of the collection does not appear to offer any insight or recollections into any major events of the time. Indeed the collection is on a very personal basis. There is little or no autobiographical detail mentioned beyond the fact that she lived in East Croydon and the everyday activities she relates in her diaries. Although there is some mention of a creche and Age Concern her involvement is not clear but her diaries give some insight into her liking for cats and that she attended church. The intrinsic value of this collection lies in its social comment especially with regard to the household accounts which offer a good and basic insight into the prices of a variety of everyday goods between the years 1976 and 1990. It is also testament that many people still shopped everyday.

Collection includes WVS Housewives Service Organisers Report on Flying Bomb Incidents June to August 1944; registers of persons bombed out during these incidents (2 vols); rough notes on flying bomb incidents and casualties (1 vol); newspaper accounts of WVS activities and an acknowledgement of Mrs Sandisons resignation from the WVS due to her husbands ill health, 1947.
