The Purley Urban Powers Committee was founded in 1911 to campaign for the formation of an Urban District for Coulsdon, Sanderstead, Woodmansterne and South Beddington parishes. The Committee also campaigned against encroachment by the County Borough of Croydon. The Committee ceased in 1914 with the formation of Coulsdon and Purley UDC. The Chairman was Mr Arthur Spurgeon of Green Garth, Peaks Hill, Purley.
