The assocation, consisting of a number of local hoteliers, was formed as a result of a meeting at Central Hotel, Park Hill Road, Croydon, in March 1977. Michael Szilagyi, of the Central Hotel, was appointed chairman. The associations aims were to share views and information; to maintain and raise standards of member hotels, to act as a body on behalf of its members; to undertake advertising; and to deal informally with complaints about members. In 1998, lacking a Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, it was decided to wind up the association as a formal body. The last meeting was held on 20th March 1998 at Kirkdale Hotel, St Peters Road, although members agreed that meetings would continue in the future on an informal basis.
