Ernest Allan Rodway (Roddy) was born on 19 Feb 1904. He worked in the fur trade for the Hudson Bay Company. In 1922, while living at 143 Beulah Hill Upper Norwood, he made the acquaintance of Emily Alice Nutt (Sally) who was an undergraduate of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, but whose family resided at 68 Canterbury Grove, West Norwood. They began courting in 1923 and were married on 18 September 1925.
Their sons Anthony and Simon, the donor of this collection, were born in 1929 and 1932 respectively.
Emily was involved in the writing of the News Chronicle Dictionary. She subsequently taught at Limpsfield and founded a nursery school at Oxted.
The couple subsequently divorced (c.1950) and Ernest remarried. He died in 1991 (Tunbridge Wells), age 87. Emily died in 1994 (Surrey South Eastern), age 91.
