Love in a Village; Tom Noddys Secret
The list of players quotes which London theatres the actors come from, and includes Mr Mears of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Size 45x18cms; fine apart from a tear in lower part which would disappear if laid down.

b) March 27 1839 Last Night. For the Benefit of Mr Mears. First and Only Appearance of Miss Mears. Double page playbill, the first page listing the many distinguished singers and actors who appear to support Mr Mears .their powerful aid during his short season.. The second page lists the plays and entertainments: Dream at Sea; Petticoat Colonel, Or Venus in Arms; Blue Jackets or Her Majestys Service. Dances and songs interspersed. Size 37 x 37cms., some very faint dust-soiling, otherwise in remarkably good condition.

Opened 22 May 1951 as a secondary modern mixed school. The school subequently acquired a sixth form and became, sucessively, a central, grammar, and 14 - 16 comprehensive school. Closed 31 August 1987 and became part of John Ruskin Sixth Form College.

By 1864 there was a Surrey Congregational Union Chapel on the site of the present school. It was then in use as a school room. The Croydon School Board took over the building on 1 August 1871 and it was used as a girls' and infants' school until 1873 when the infants moved to a separate room. This is Croydon's oldest Board School by 14 days. Administrative papers: 1871 - 1890, CBC/3/2/11; 1891 - 1903, CBC/3/2/12; 1903 - 1924, CBC/3/2/13; 1924 - 1945, CBC/3/2/14. There is a history of the school in "The Beulah Story 1873-1973" by Albert E. Oliver in the Local History collection.
