Archival history
Custodial:
Papers collected by donor in her role as Chair of Governors documenting the project to create an art installation in the new building at Westwood High School as a millenium project using clock faces previously removed from Gillett and Johnston Clock Tower in Thornton Heath
Administrative:
The project was initiated as a millenium art project involving pupils at the school in 1997. The initial suggestion for a public arts project came from the Councils Heritage Officer. The clock faces were stored initally at Stubbs Mead Council Depot where they had been damaged and concern was raised whether they were still suitable for the project. Delays also occurred when there were doubts whether the wall the face was to hang on was capable of holding their weight. The artist selected, Gudrun Nielsen held workshops with pupils to provide input to the final design. The clock faces were accompanied by a dowry of almost 10,000 which was used to fund the project. Additionally Gillett and Johnston worked on the project to make the clock operational.
