  • AR875
  • Collection
  • c.1959

The petition reads: We the undersigned deplore the proposal to demolish the Grand Theatre and call upon the Croydon Borough Council to reject outright this attempt to close Croydons only live theatre and presumably was compiled c.1958-9 as the Grand closed on 18 April 1959. The petition is signed by actors and actresses who give their address as various London Theatres so this is presumably where they were appearing. Brooks family photograph album

  • AR876
  • Collection
  • c.1890 - 1900

Large photograph album, in a fragile condition with some loose pages. The album is mainly holiday photographs (Isle of Wight, Bexhill, Eastbourne etc) but with some Croydon photographs, including interiors. These include:

88 Lansdowne Road, Drawing Room, 1892
88 Lansdowne Road, Conservatory
Eldon Villa
Ruby Lodge, Park Hill Rise (Back view)
Coombe Cottage
Hill Crest, (on Brownlow Road), 1892 (front and garden)
St Matthews Church (exterior and interior)
St Fillans, Coombe, Croydon
Wrencote, Croydon

The album also includes scenes from a historical pageant as well as some pressed leaves.

It is likely that the owner of the album was an acquaintance of James Sant (1820 - 1916, born in Croydon) as there are photographs of him at work and also a photograph of three ladies taken at his home at 43 Lancaster Gate, London.
