Croydon Parish: Overseers' Account Books

The account books record the payment of bills, mainly relating to the supply of provisions and services at the workhouse, and the cost of journeys to other parishes, and of poor relief to individuals. Names of recipients, and occasionally some details about their circumstances, are given.

Purley War Memorial Hospital: House Committee Minutes

August 1939 - April 1942 missing.

Although these volumes have been labelled House Committee, the House Committee was not formed until September 1948 when the advent of the National Health Service meant that Purley War Memorial Hospital became part of the newly created Croydon Group Hospital Management Committee. Prior to this date, the volumes contain the minutes of the General Committee until May 1939 and as the Committee of Managment until July 1948. As such these volumes are the main hospital minutes and contain details of the general administration of the hospital, including staffing matters, but rarely mention patients by name. The volumes also contain minutes of other committees and sub-committees which were formed when necessary.
